Graduate School of Advanced Integration Science
Chiba University

The Graduate School of Advanced Integration Science, formed of approximately 60 leading academics coming from various faculties, such as Science, Engineering, Horticulture and Literature & Education, was established in 2007. It aims to study and establish new interdisciplinary research fields, such as nano-science & technology, as well as information technology, and to produce highly-educated students for the society.

Such interdisciplinary research fields frequently require not only deep investigations of conventional research fields, but also the integration of various standpoints, intelligences, and technologies.

In other words, only interdisciplinary research fields, in which leading academics in individual specialized fields are efficiently linked together, can best hope to create innovations based on new research communities.

The Graduate School of Advanced Integration Science offers a two-year Master’s Program and three-year Doctoral Program. It is comprised of two Divisions: the Division of Nanoscience and the Division of Information Sciences. Nano and information technologies, i.e., interdisciplinary research fields for the 21st century, have been rapidly progressing, and have also received great demands in a variety of fields.

The Division of Nanoscience has two Departments: “Department of Nanomaterial Science” and “Department of Nanobiology”. Nanomaterial Science discovers novel physical properties of materials on the nano-scale (nanomaterials); and it also addresses the design issues of nanomaterials and nanodevices. Nanobiology deals with nano-scale metrologies that can help one to understand the functionality and structures of life systems. Furthermore, in the Division of Nanoscience we have been achieving global education and research programs based on the Global COE (Centers of Excellence) Program for international development.

The Division of Information Sciences further offers two departments: “Department of Image and Materials Science” and “Department of Information Processing and Computer Science”.  Image and Materials Science supports a new generation of image technologies, traditionally an area of strength at Chiba University. Information Processing and Computer Science also supports intelligent information processing and information systems to be applied to a diversity of information. Furthermore, the Division of Information Sciences is designed to develop information-processing technologies for human science, which scientifically reveals the perception and psychology aspect of human beings.

The Graduate School of Advanced Integration Science is an education and research institution that offers interdisciplinary and comprehensive programs. We offer curriculums that provide learning-friendly systems, such as English and special individually tailored courses, even for adult education and international students. We are looking forward to your enrollment into our school to create a new phase of academic development together.
